Boost your mood with some help from office fruit

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Not many people are in a great mood if they have to trek into work in the pitch black, so heading straight to the office fruit basket could help you out.

According to mental health charity Mind, office fruit bananas can boost mood.

Bananas from the office fruit delivery contain trypotophan and the body converts it into serotonin, which is known to produce an enlightening effect.

With the clocks going back this Sunday (October 31st), it's a particularly important time for people to "keep their mood up", according to Bridget O'Connell, head of information at Mind.

The best way to do this is to remember "to eat healthily and ensure you eat fresh fruit and vegetables daily, even if you are tempted to just eat starchy foods".

Something for office fruit fans to think about is that: "Any exercise, including indoor exercise, is known to help boost mood, but if you find that you are feeling down as the clocks go back it is even more important to seek out some daylight outdoors," Ms O'Connell said.

Want a stress-free day? Try office fruit

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Spending an entire day at work is hardly ever an easy feat. So, if you're feeling a teeny bit stressed out after an arduous morning, you might want to head to the office fruit delivery.

There are plenty of different snacks on offer in the office fruit basket and some of them can help regulate your heartbeat, which is particularly good if you're feeling stressed.

Office fruit peaches, nectarines and bananas are all rich in potassium. The mineral has a beneficial effect on heartbeat and muscular contraction, as well as the capability to balance the nervous system.

If you do feel stressed at work, you really shouldn't feel like you're alone. A new study from the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has revealed that 62 per cent of health and safety reps believe stress is one of the top five problems faced by their workforce.

The condition appears to affect more people in London than elsewhere in the country, with 70 per cent of reps questioned in the city citing it as a concern.

"Stress can be caused by heavy workloads, cuts in staffing, long hours and bullying," said TUC general secretary Brendan Barber.

"Unions and employers must work together to combat stress at work as it can have a devastating impact on workers and a damaging cost on businesses."

Fight that bulge with office fruit

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

If the cold mornings are getting to you slightly at the moment, making you feel lethargic and unhealthy, office fruit could be just the thing you need to perk you up.

The office fruit basket contains treats like grapes and bananas, which are both great sources of natural sugars that help give you a boost if you're feeling a bit sluggish.

Working to stimulate the brain so you can recall information more quickly, the sugars help prolong performance as well.

Snacks from the office fruit box are all low in fat, meaning they're a great treat to eat if you're a bit concerned about your weight.

Shocking data showed this week that one in ten people in the UK is now registered obese and now, a new study has revealed the indirect costs of obesity on the country.

According to the National Obesity Observatory's Economic Burden of Obesity report, by 2015, the indirect costs of obesity could be a staggering £27 billion in the UK.

In 1998, the NHS cost of treating overweight and obese individuals was estimated to be £479.3 million, but this figure shot up to £4.2 billion over the next decade, and is set to rise significantly again over the coming years.

Office fruit can help you on your way to five-a-day

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

Maintaining a healthy diet has, for a long time, been drummed into the heads of office fruit fans up and down the country.

Snacks from the office fruit basket can help people get on their way to consuming the recommended five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Peaches and nectarines from the office fruit delivery are a great source of potassium, which means they benefit heartbeat, growth and muscular contraction, as well as helping balance the nervous system, making them a useful and healthy snack.

The benefits of eating a healthy diet have once again been highlighted by a new study.

Danish researchers have found that improving diet, exercising for at least 30 minutes a day and consuming less alcohol could all help reduce the risk of getting bowel cancer.

These three things, coupled with having a waist circumference of less than 88cm for women and 102cm for men, and being a non-smoker, all lower the risk factors involved in the disease.

Some 55,847 men and women were studied over a ten-year period for the research.

The researchers found, if the people had followed the five simple lifestyle guidelines, 23 per cent fewer would have been diagnosed with bowel cancer over the decade-long study.

Office fruit news: Skipping breakfast ‘increases heart disease risk’

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

If you had a frantic morning, you may not have had time to eat breakfast, so a good place to head could be to the office fruit delivery.

There are plenty of healthy snacks on offer, all of which provide different benefits to your body.

Take office fruit apples, for example. They're rich in the antioxidant pectin, which prevents cholesterol levels in the bloodstream getting too high.

This could be great news if you skipped brekkie this morning, as a new study has revealed the risk of heart disease is heightened if you fail to eat breakfast.

Researchers from the University of Tasmania found that there is greater risk of obesity, large fat stores around the stomach and higher cholesterol levels in people who do not eat breakfast – all of which are contributory factors to heart disease.

According to the British Heart Foundation, heart and circulatory disease is the biggest killer in the UK.

The latest data shows that, in 2008, more than 191,000 people died from the disease in the country.

Treats from the office fruit delivery could help control your cholesterol levels.

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

If you're keen to consume a healthier diet, eating snacks from the office fruit basket could help you out.

There are plenty of treats which are packed full of energy-boosting sugars, while still being tasty and low in fat.

Office fruit grapes, for example, are a great source of the antioxidants phyto-chemicals, which help fight cholesterol and boost the immune system.

Eating treats from the office fruit delivery can be a good way to help you towards your five-a-day, which is becoming even more vital as new statistics have revealed one in ten UK adults is now considered to be obese.

Over the past few years, obesity rates in the country have accelerated rapidly, leading to 2.8 million people now falling into the classification, according to data from Diabetes UK.

"Being overweight can put a serious strain on a person's health," said David Ross, chief executive of The Hospital Group.

"Not only does being overweight have a huge impact on your health but it can also impact a person's confidence and self esteem which can cause their social life to suffer too."

Celebs love munching on bananas

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Celebrities appear to be going bananas at the moment for, well, the yellow fruity treat itself.

The Saturdays singer Rochelle Wiseman decided to grab the highly a-peeling snack when she left the studio after a live recording for Koko Pop on Channel 4, according to the Daily Mail.

Essex-born Rochelle, who's currently dating JLS singer Marvin Humes, opted for the healthy snack to help her recharge after a tough dance and singing session for the TV show.

Former Coronation Street actress Tina O'Brien has been a bit keen on the bananas recently too, it would appear.

Her pro-partner on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, Jared Murillo, told the Daily Star the mum-of-one's obsession with the yellow fruit is driving him a little bit bonkers.

"She has a habit of eating bananas all the time.

"There is always a banana in her hand or mouth when we rehearse!"

Monday, October 25th, 2010

Office fruit fans may be disturbed by new data which has revealed there are now one in 20 British adults with diabetes.

Over the past year, the number of people with the condition has risen by 150,000, meaning 2.8 million aged 17 and over has it, according to new data from Diabetes UK.

Pears are a great snack to eat as they contain high levels of fibre, which helps limit sugar levels in the bloodstream, as well as boosting how well the digestive system functions.

Office fruit bananas ‘could be a natural sleep remedy’

Monday, October 25th, 2010

If you find you're struggling to sleep well, the solution could lie in the office fruit basket.

A new study has revealed that magnesium, which is found in office fruit bananas, could be a natural supplement to boost sleep patterns and ensure you stay in your state of slumber through the whole night.

James Penland at the Human Nutrition Research Center in North Dakota has found that magnesium deficiency is linked to chronic insomnia, as well as agitated sleep with frequent waking.

However, his study, entitled Effects of Trace Element Nutrition on Sleep Patterns in Adult Women, found a high magnesium diet is connected to deep, less interrupted, slumber.

According to William Sears, M.D, who has carried out numerous sleep studies, "products, which contain both tryptophan and calcium, are one of the top sleep-inducing foods".

Bananas contain tryptophan as well as magnesium, which may help you fall asleep quicker.

They're not the only treats in the office fruit box to be linked with improved sleep patterns.

Cherries can also help you get a better night's kip as they contain melatonin, which helps the brain slow down and relax, meaning you'll sleep even better.
