Eat office fruit ‘to reduce bowel cancer risk’

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Consuming a balanced diet, rich in plenty of office fruit and veg, can help reduce people's risk of developing bowel cancer.

Mark Flannagan, chief executive of Beating Bowel Cancer, said diet and lifestyle factors can often have a bearing on the disease.

"It is important to eat a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and wholegrains," he advised.

There is also evidence regular exercise can help reduce people's bowel cancer risk as well, by as much as 50 per cent, Mr Flannagan added.

"We recommend that people should aim for 30 minutes of vigorous physical activity every day, which means getting out of breath," the charity's chief executive said.

Researchers from Northwestern University in the US recently found that people who consume plenty of fibre – which is present in office fruit box snacks like figs – have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease over their lifetime.

Office fruit news: Failing to take a lunch hour affects productivity

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

If you're feeling a bit lethargic at work, the best thing to do is head to the office fruit basket to grab an energy-boosting snack.

Office fruit bananas are rich in natural sugars which help you out if you're feeling a bit of a slump in your energy levels at work.

You should always ensure you manage to take a break at work, even if it's just to get some fresh air, as new research has shown it impacts greatly on your productivity levels.

More than a third (34 per cent) of employees fail to take a lunch hour because they feel their workload is too big to take time out, the research from Bupa revealed.

However, because they don't take a break, 48 per cent of workers feel their productivity levels drop dramatically at 3pm, losing them 40 minutes a day.

Recent research by the Atkins Diet team revealed the time between 3 and 3.30pm is when most people are likely to need a snack at work and office fruit could be the best thing to eat.

Workers hit the office fruit at 3.23pm

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Many workers just grab a quick sandwich at lunch, meaning by the time mid-afternoon hits, they are ready for a snack.

However, rather than opting for a biscuit or packet of crisps, workers are advised to opt for a tasty treat from the office fruit basket, which can help them last until dinnertime without being unhealthy.

Recent research conducted by the Atkins Diet team highlighted that between 3 and 3.30pm is when most people forget their healthy eating intentions and give into the temptation of an afternoon snack.

"This is the time when most dieters are susceptible to failure because of a number of different factors, namely a dip in energy mid-afternoon and the use of food as an emotional crutch," nutritionist Linda O'Byrne said.

"This could be down to either stress, boredom or the many other ranges of emotion that we go through on any given day."

Rather than snacking on something unhealthy, workers are advised to try something from the office fruit delivery.

A banana is not only tasty but is also full of energy-boosting natural sugars, which will help people make it until home time, while apples are full of vitamin A which helps with vision.

Office fruit news: Good diets and digestion ‘vital during pregnancy’

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Women who regularly enjoy produce from their office fruit basket might be keen to note that digestion is said to be vital during pregnancy, along with the quality of their diets.

According to Emma Cannon, fertility advisor and acupuncturist, stimulants in particular may need to be avoided by those with youngsters on the way, with coffee and alcohol among the drinks that should not be consumed.

She added: "It is important to eat regularly and to eat cooked foods that are easy on the digestion."

"Foods which nourish the blood are ideal, chicken soup made from chicken stock and leafy green vegetable," Ms Cannon added.

Babies with a taste for fast food might be produced by pregnant women who have large fat and sugar intakes, it was recently suggested by a report published in the FASEB Journal, which the University of Adelaide's School of Agriculture Food and Wine FOODplus Research Centre was behind.

Boost skin quality with office fruit

Friday, March 25th, 2011

People who have access to office fruit during the working day might be able to improve their skin condition by enjoying a variety of produce as part of their diets, it has been suggested.

Skin therapist Louise Thomas-Minns believes that a diet which includes a range of fruit and vegetables could help those who are after healthy skin.

"Adopt good dietary habits such as drinking water and green tea, eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables and increasing those essential fats," she recommended.

In addition to this, she advised: "Use an environmental protector every day."

As well as munching on things like fruit, Ms Thomas-Minns also said that regular skin assessments could help those who want to keep up with the changing nature of their skin.

Diet and exercise are currently viewed as the key factors which relate to ageing skin by eight in ten people, it was recently suggested by Mintel research.

Office fruit fans advised to shun junk food during pregnancy

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Office fruit basket treats are a great, healthy snack for everyone in the workplace, but pregnant women trying to get all the right nutrients and minerals for their baby should definitely try and munch on the treats.

A new study has revealed that women who eat a diet which is high in fat and sugar while they're pregnant raise the risk of their children opting for the same kind of foods after birth.

The research, conducted by researchers at the University of Adelaide in Australia, revealed a high-fat, high-sugar diet can lead to changes in the brain reward pathway of the foetus, which can affect food preferences.

Co-author of the study Dr Beverly Muhlhausler said: "These results will help us to better help women about diet during pregnancy and breastfeeding for giving their infants the best start in life."

The Sun's wellbeing experts Nicki Waterman and Amanda Ursell recently advised pregnant women to eat healthily during their gestation to ensure their baby grows well and gets sufficient nutrients.

Eating snacks from the office fruit delivery could be one way to boost your healthy eating before you head off on maternity leave.

Office fruit news: Your personality can affect your health

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

If you're a happy-go-lucky person who is constantly optimistic, you might want to look to the office fruit basket to help you shift some excess pounds.

A new study by Japanese researchers, reported in the Daily Mail, has revealed while optimistic people may be content about their lives, they are also the most likely to pile on the pounds.

Researchers from Doshisha University in Kyoto followed obese men and women undertaking a six-month weight-loss programme.

They found those with the most positive mental attitude were the least likely to lose weight, the news provider reported.

The researchers believed this is because those who tend to look on the bright side of everything care less about being overweight, which leads them into temptation more often.

Recent research from the Monash University and the University of Copenhagen revealed the longer people are obese for, the more it affects their mortality risk.

Office fruit fans ‘can always find time to exercise’

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Office fruit fans who are trying to shift some pounds can always find some time to fit in exercise during the day, one writer has suggested.

Coleen Nolan, writing for the Daily Mirror, said: "Everybody can find 20 minutes in their day to do some exercise. Go for a walk at lunch or do a quick exercise DVD."

When it comes to eating healthily, Coleen said it's all about good planning.

She said you need to make sure you stock up on plenty of healthy snacks. One way of getting your five-a-day could be through munching on office fruit box treats throughout the day.

"When you start eating more healthy foods, you'll find that you crave sugar less," the Loose Women presenter said.

Carole Spiers, chief executive of the Carole Spiers Group, said recently that employers need to educate their workers about healthy eating.

She said doing this will allow employees to look out for the right foods to eat and help them develop their healthy eating habits.

Boost your fibre intake with office fruit

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

If you're keen to boost your heart health, eating office fruit could be a great thing to do.

A new study has revealed fibre – which is found in some office fruit basket treats, such as figs – can affect people's cardiovascular health.

Researchers from Northwestern University in the US found people who consume the most fibre in their diets, lower their lifetime cardiovascular disease risk further than those who don't eat much.

Study author Dr Donald M Lloyd-Jones said it has been known for some time that a diet rich in fibre can help boost weight loss, lower cholesterol levels and improve hypertension.

"The results of this study make a lot of sense because weight, cholesterol and hypertension are major determinants of your long-term risk for cardiovascular disease," he added.

Ursula Arens from the British Dietetic Association recently told the Daily Mail that saturated fats, found in foods such as biscuits and cakes, raise people's risk of heart attacks and strokes.

This alone is a great reason to opt for an office fruit box treat over junk food when you're at work.

Improve your health with office fruit

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

If you eat plenty of office fruit box treats throughout the day and you exercise the recommended amount – for 30 minutes five days a week – you'll probably have a fairly healthy lifestyle.

Chances are, if you consume lots of office fruit, you'll be a reasonably healthy weight as well, which is good for your overall wellbeing.

New research has revealed the number of years people are obese for in their lives affects their mortality risk.

People who live with obesity for more than 15 years, for example, triple their risk of mortality, the study, conducted by researchers at Monash University and the University of Copenhagen, revealed.

The research showed, for every additional two years people were obese for, their mortality risk rose between six and seven per cent.

"Before now we did not know whether being obese for longer was any worse for your health than simply being obese," said Dr Anna Peeters from Monash University.

"This research shows for the first time that being obese for longer increases your risk of mortality."
